How to register for a med card in Arizona

Getting your Arizona MMJ card is easy with NuggMD. Just see your practitioner online via video chat to get your evaluation. Once approved by your practitioner, you’ll sign into the Arizona Department of Health website, submit your application and documents, and pay the $150 fee.

The state will review your card, usually within 5 business days, and issue your electronic card via email. The state no longer issues physical cards. If approved, your card will be good for two years.

How to renew your med card in Arizona

Renewing your AZ medical marijuana card is a bi-annual requirement for the program.  Thankfully, the process for how to renew your Arizona medical card is easy. And NuggMD makes your renewal even easier!

How to be a medical cannabis caregiver in Arizona

Arizona medical marijuana patients may opt to have a caregiver purchase and administer their medical cannabis. Patients under 18 require a caregiver to participate in the program. 

Patients must qualify and be approved before they can submit a caregiver application. Caregivers may also be patients as long as they meet the necessary requirements and successfully complete the application process. Caregivers may have up to five patients but each patient must submit a separate application for the caregiver. 

To qualify as your caregiver, they must:

  • Be 21 years or older
  • Have an Arizona driver’s license or ID issued on or after October 1, 1996
  • Be designated by a qualifying and approved Arizona medical marijuana patient
  • Agree to assist the patient with the use of medical cannabis, and pledge not to divert cannabis to non-permitted individuals
  • Submit to a background check or provide documentation of a valid level I fingerprint clearance
  • Submit payment

Caregivers cannot:

  • Use their patient’s cannabis
  • Distribute the patient’s cannabis to anyone else

Caregiver medical marijuana cards are $200. Approved caregiver applications are valid for 2 years.

  • Arizona residents with qualifying medical conditions may apply for a medical marijuana card with a physician’s recommendation.

  • Arizona law allows patients to request additional medical conditions be added to the list of qualifying ones twice a year. In January and July, the state will accept written requests filed with other required information to support the need to add the condition to the state’s official list.

  • Adult-use and medical cannabis are both legal in Arizona. Medical patients are extended benefits like additional legal protections, have higher possession limits, and are exempt from paying the excise tax.

  • NuggMD offers low-cost, no-risk evaluations to patients. If you aren’t approved, you don’t pay for your evaluation. Arizona’s medical marijuana card costs $150 for the initial and renewal application. Caregiver applications are $200. The cost of the state card is in addition to the cost of the evaluation.

  • Since cannabis is still federally illegal, health insurance will not cover any of the costs of medical marijuana treatment.

  • Getting your evaluation with NuggMD can take as little as 15 minutes. However, the state often takes up to 5 business days to process your application and send out your electronic card via email. If approved, your card will be good for 2 years.

  • With NuggMD, you are ONLY charged for your evaluation if you are approved. We believe everyone deserves access to a qualified medical cannabis doctor, and the cost of an evaluation shouldn’t be a barrier.

  • You’ll only be charged if you’re approved for your medical marijuana certification. If not, your evaluation is free! If you sign up and pay for your evaluation, but then cancel before your evaluation, there is a small $10 fee for the payment processing. Once you’ve been approved and issued your certification, a refund for services will no longer be available. Please send an email to support@nuggmd.com with the subject line “Refund Request” and a brief description of your issue. We want to make sure you’re 100% satisfied with your purchase being that you, the customer, are the most important thing to us! Once a refund has been initiated, please allow 3-5 business days for the funds to transfer back to the card you used for the transaction. If any issues arise, please feel free to reach back out for further assistance.

  • Absolutely! You have the right to see any state-approved practitioner to assess your qualifying condition and discuss medical cannabis treatment.

  • This depends on the state to which you’re traveling. Each state has different rules regarding reciprocity, and some don’t allow it at all. Check with your destination state to learn more.

  • No. Arizona only allows residents with a valid Arizona driver’s license or ID issued on or after October 1, 1996 to apply for the medical marijuana program.
