To get an Ohio medical marijuana card, you must be an Ohio resident, be 18 or older (minors need a caregiver who is at least 21), and be certified by a physician registered with the state for one of Ohio’s qualifying conditions. Your physician enters your recommendation in the state’s Patient and Caregiver Registry, and Ohio no longer charges a registration fee.

Yes, if you’re 21 or older. Ohio began recreational sales in August 2024, so adults 21+ can shop at dispensaries with an adult-use license. Registered patients get extra perks: they can shop at 18, buy medical-only products, and skip the 10% adult-use tax.

Ohio medical patients can buy up to a 90-day supply, filled in two 45-day periods. For a standard 90-day supply, that means:

- Edibles and tinctures: up to 9.9 grams of THC (11 for terminal patients)
- Topicals: up to 26.55 grams of THC (29.5 for terminal patients)
- Vaporization oils: up to 53.1 grams of THC (59 for terminal patients)
Registered patients can buy medical cannabis at any Ohio dispensary that holds a medical license, and most dispensaries now serve both patients and recreational customers. Products include flower, oils, tinctures, capsules, edibles, lotions, creams, and patches.

Yes. Ohio law doesn’t require employers to accommodate medical cannabis use, so you can be refused a job or fired for a positive drug test even if you’re a registered patient, depending on your employer’s policies.
