In Kentucky, your physician must authorize the use of a caregiver. Should you need one, your physician will provide written documentation that states this need and the name of your caregiver, along with your written recommendation. This document isn't necessary if the caregiver is the patient's parent or legal guardian.

Kentucky doesn't have a functional medical marijuana program yet, so there is no medical marijuana card to register for in the state. At the moment, if a resident or visitor to Kentucky has cannabis under the following conditions, they will receive a full pardon if charged:
On March 30, Governor Beshear signed SB 47 into law. Once the program is fully implemented, the state will be issuing medical marijuana cards.
At the moment, the state isn't issuing registry identification cards. Once they begin, Registry Identification Cards will be good for one year from date of issuance. Your initial evaluation must be in the physical presence of the doctor, but follow-up evaluations can be conducted via telemedicine if the physician thinks it's appropriate.

There isn't a functioning medical marijuana program in Kentucky yet. However, patients or their caregivers who are in possession of a valid physician's recommendation and a receipt to show the legal purchase of their cannabis are granted a full pardon via Governor Beshear's executive order.
This pardon only applies to possession of cannabis within the precise parameters of the order. Anyone who does not have a valid recommendation, or is in possession of more than the allowed amount, or is attempting to distribute cannabis illegally will not be granted a pardon.
Once the state begins issuing Registry Identification Cards, patients will be required to register with the state to continue to legally possess and use medical cannabis.

There is a committee that will add new conditions as they are found to be appropriate, although Kentucky's list of qualifying conditions is very broad and inclusive and includes chronic pain.
Kentucky doesn't have a medical marijuana program or issue med cards yet. SB 47, which was signed by Governor Beshear on March 30, will see the development of a full program. There is no insurance coverage for the plant yet. In the future, this will likely change once cannabis is fully legalized at a national level. Until then, insurance won't cover it.

This depends on the state to which you’re traveling. Each state has different rules regarding reciprocity, and some don’t allow it at all. If the state you're traveling to requires a state-issued card, then your recommendation won't suffice. However, some states only require a doctor's recommendation.
