How to be a medical cannabis caregiver in Missouri
Some patients want to have – or are required to have – a designated caregiver who can purchase cannabis on their behalf. They’re also allowed to transport it and prepare it for patient use. If the caregiver has a cultivation registration for the patient, they may cultivate on their behalf as well. The cultivation registration costs $53.
Caregivers will need a Patient Authorization Form filled out by the patient that they will be caring for. Once the caregiver has the form, they will need to create and fill out their own account in the state’s Online Registration Portal.
To qualify as your caregiver, they must:
- be responsible for the management of the wellbeing of the registered patient
- be at least 21 years of age
- be designated by the patient on the Patient Authorization Form
Caregivers cannot:
- use the patient’s cannabis,
- purchase or possess more than the maximum amount allowed for the patient
- cultivate for the patient without a cultivation registration
The caregiver application fee is $26.50.

The benefits of having a medical marijuana card in Missouri include:
* Tax Savings: Medical marijuana patients enjoy lower taxes on cannabis purchases compared to recreational users.
* Exclusive Discounts: Many dispensaries offer cardholders special discounts and loyalty programs.
* Higher Possession Limits: Medical patients are allowed to possess twice as much cannabis as recreational users.
* Legal Protections: Medical marijuana patients benefit from legal protections, including parental rights, employment protections, and organ donor protections. Patients on probation or parole may be allowed to use medical cannabis.
* Long-Lasting Cards: Missouri’s medical marijuana cards are valid for three years, and the state registration fee costs $25, making it one of the cheapest in the nation. (State application fees are in addition to the cost of evaluation.)
Missouri’s medical card state application fee is $26.50 for a patient or caregiver. Patients can also obtain an optional cultivation card for an additional $53 if desired. To start the application, patients must first obtain a medical evaluation. NuggMD offers low-cost Missouri medical cannabis evaluations good for three years, and there’s no risk because you’re only billed if you’re approved for medical cannabis.
Unfortunately, no. You’ll be responsible for the cost of your medical marijuana products. Since medical marijuana is still a federally illegal Schedule 1 drug, insurers won’t reimburse for the cost of acquiring cannabis.
Missouri has up to 30 days to process patient and caregiver applications, though many applicants report receiving their patient identification cards much faster. You can start the process today by getting your medical cannabis evaluation through NuggMD in as little as 15 minutes with no appointment necessary. Once approved, your physician will enter your certification into the state’s system within 24 to 48 hours.
With NuggMD, you are ONLY charged for your evaluation if you are approved. If you start the sign up process and pay, but then change your mind, there will be a small $10 charge deducted from your refund to cover the payment processing. We believe everyone deserves access to a qualified medical cannabis doctor, and the cost of an evaluation shouldn’t be a barrier.
You’ll only be charged if you’re approved for your medical marijuana certification. If not, your evaluation is free! If you sign up and pay for your evaluation, but then cancel before your evaluation, there is a small $10 fee for the payment processing. You can also change your mind after your evaluation if you wish and request a refund, but you must do so before your certification has been submitted to the state. Once you’ve been certified, a refund for services will no longer be available. Please send an email to support@nuggmd.com with the subject line “Refund Request” and a brief description of your issue. We want to make sure you’re 100% satisfied with your purchase being that you, the customer, are the most important thing to us! Once a refund has been initiated, please allow 3-5 business days for the funds to transfer back to the card you used for the transaction. A refund is no longer available more than 30 days after the date of your evaluation. If any issues arise, please feel free to reach back out for further assistance.
Of course! You can see any Missouri state-licensed licensed physician to obtain your medical marijuana renewal evaluation. NuggMD’s Missouri-state licensed doctors are standing by to see you today.
