How to be a medical cannabis caregiver in Michigan
Not every patient is able to manage their own medications, that’s why Michigan allows patients to designate a caregiver to assist them in purchasing, cultivating, and administering their medication. Patients under the age of 18 need to have a parent or legal guardian designated as a caregiver in order to register.
In Michigan, there are two ways for a patient to designate a caregiver. Patients can name a caregiver at the time they first register. That would require that the patient add their caregiver in their registration and include that caregiver’s state-issued ID. Michigan also provides a form for patients to add a caregiver after they’ve registered. In that case, they’d have to fill out the form and include the caregiver’s state ID.
In order to serve as a caregiver in Michigan, you must:
- Be 21 years-old or older
- Be a permanent resident of Michigan
- Agree to assist the patient with their medication
- Not have been convicted of a felony in the past 10 years
- Have never been convicted of a drug-related or assaultive felony
