How to be a medical cannabis caregiver in Missouri

Some patients want to have – or are required to have – a designated caregiver who can purchase cannabis on their behalf. They’re also allowed to transport it and prepare it for patient use. If the caregiver has a cultivation registration for the patient, they may cultivate on their behalf as well. The cultivation registration costs $53.

Caregivers will need a Patient Authorization Form filled out by the patient that they will be caring for. Once the caregiver has the form, they will need to create and fill out their own account in the state’s Online Registration Portal.

To qualify as your caregiver, they must:

  • be responsible for the management of the wellbeing of the registered patient
  • be at least 21 years of age
  • be designated by the patient on the Patient Authorization Form

Caregivers cannot:

  • use the patient’s cannabis,
  • purchase or possess more than the maximum amount allowed for the patient
  • cultivate for the patient without a cultivation registration

The caregiver application fee is $26.50.

  • Missouri has a long, inclusive list of qualifying conditions for cannabis, but they also allow doctors to recommend the herb for “any other chronic, debilitating or other medical condition, or any chronic condition that normally requires prescriptions that could lead to dependence, if the doctor determines that marijuana could be safer and more effective.”  This means that the decision to recommend cannabis is entirely up to your physician.

  • For now, having an MMJ ID is the only way to legally purchase and possess cannabis in Missouri. Legal cannabis sales will likely begin in February 2023. Still, even after cannabis is legalized, having an MMJ ID card will come with a lot of benefits in Missouri:

    • *Registered patients will pay lower taxes on their products.
    • *Patients will be able to possess twice as much cannabis as recreational users.
    • *Patients will have parental rights protections, employment protections, and organ donor protections.
    • *Those on probation and parole who use medical marijuana will be legally protected, but not if they use recreational cannabis.
    • *Cards will be good for three years and the cost will still be $25, making the application fee one of the cheapest in the nation. (State application fees are in addition to the cost of evaluation.)

So, it’s still very beneficial to have a medical marijuana card in Missouri. Don’t take the legal and health risks associated with the black market. Get legal today!

  • NuggMD offers low-cost Missouri medical cannabis evaluations good for three years, and there’s no risk because you’re only billed if you’re approved for medical cannabis. The state application fee is $26.50 for a patient or caregiver. An additional (and optional) cultivation card costs $53. This cultivation application fee is in addition to the $26.50 fee.

  • Unfortunately, no. You’ll be responsible for the cost of your medical marijuana products. Since medical marijuana is still a federally illegal Schedule 1 drug, insurers won’t reimburse for the cost of acquiring cannabis.

  • Your physician will enter your certification into the system within 24 to 48 hours, but Amendment 2 allows the state to take up to 30 days to process your application. The Department has been very fast with applications up to this point. Some applicants have received their new patient identification cards via email within 48 hours. Others take longer.

  • With NuggMD, you are ONLY charged for your evaluation if you are approved. If you start the sign up process and pay, but then change your mind, there will be a small $10 charge deducted from your refund to cover the payment processing. We believe everyone deserves access to a qualified medical cannabis doctor, and the cost of an evaluation shouldn’t be a barrier.

  • You’ll only be charged if you’re approved for your medical marijuana certification. If not, your evaluation is free! If you sign up and pay for your evaluation, but then cancel before your evaluation, there is a small $10 fee for the payment processing. You can also change your mind after your evaluation if you wish and request a refund, but you must do so before your certification has been submitted to the state. Once you’ve been certified, a refund for services will no longer be available. Please send an email to support@nuggmd.com with the subject line “Refund Request” and a brief description of your issue. We want to make sure you’re 100% satisfied with your purchase being that you, the customer, are the most important thing to us! Once a refund has been initiated, please allow 3-5 business days for the funds to transfer back to the card you used for the transaction. A refund is no longer available more than 30 days after the date of your evaluation. If any issues arise, please feel free to reach back out for further assistance.

  • Of course! You can see any Missouri state-licensed licensed physician to obtain your medical marijuana renewal evaluation. NuggMD’s Missouri-state licensed doctors are standing by to see you today.

  • This depends on the state to which you’re traveling. Each state has different rules regarding medical marijuana reciprocity, and some don’t allow it at all. Check with your destination state to learn more.
