How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card in Alaska

Print an Application
The Application for Medical Marijuana Registry can be found on the Alaska’s medical cannabis website.

See Your Doctor
Bring your application and medical history to a licensed medical doctor. To acquire a medical cannabis card in Alaska, you must be diagnosed with a qualifying medical condition.

Mail Your Application and Payment
Fill out the application and mail it to the state's registry with a check or money order payable to the Bureau of Vital Statistics. Missing or wrong information may result in your application being denied. By law, you may only apply for a medical cannabis card in Alaska once every 6 months.

Both medical and recreational patients have the same restrictions on purchase limits. Medical patients in Alaska may gain additional legal protections that aren’t available to recreational consumers. Additionally, Alaska med card holders can have a caregiver purchase and administer their cannabis treatment to them.
The cost of your doctors visit will depend on your health insurance and provider. To submit a new application to the state is $25, and $20 for a timely renewal.
Cannabis, whether medical or recreational, remains federally illegal. This status prohibits health insurance from covering medical cannabis as treatment. This may change as legislation develops.
NuggMD does currently not offer its services in Alaska. Once you submit the state’s application and payment, you should receive a response in 45-90 days.
With NuggMD, you are only charged for your evaluation if you are approved. We believe everyone deserves access to a qualified medical cannabis doctor, and the cost of an evaluation shouldn’t be a barrier.
If you’re not approved for your medical marijuana certification, your evaluation is free.
If you sign up and pay for your evaluation, but then cancel before your evaluation, there is a small $10 fee for the payment processing.
Once you’ve been approved and issued your certification, a refund for services will no longer be available. Please send an email to support@nuggmd.com with the subject line “Refund Request” and a brief description of your issue.
We want to make sure you’re 100% satisfied with your purchase being that you, the customer, are the most important thing to us! Once a refund has been initiated, please allow 3-5 business days for the funds to transfer back to the card you used for the transaction. If any issues arise, please feel free to reach back out for further assistance.

This depends on the state to which you’re traveling. Each state has different rules regarding reciprocity, and some don’t allow it at all. Check with your destination state to learn more.
