  • As of now, NJ doesn't allow medicinal marijuana purchases using an out of state medical card. It may be a possibility in the future; but the is dependent on a new commission.

  • Yes, out-of-state medical marijuana patients must first meet with a registered New Jersey healthcare practitioner and provide a current copy of their state medical marijuana registration to obtain a temporary ID. The temporary IDs are valid for six months and are not eligible for renewal.

  • Yes. However, if the ID or driver’s license you provide for proof of identity isn’t issued by New Jersey or doesn’t reflect your current address, you’ll need to provide proof of residency. A current New Jersey government-issued ID or two proofs of residency. You can show proof of residency by providing two documents from two different items on the list below:

*a utility or phone bill that’s dated within 90 days
*a W-2, 1099, 1098, or other letter from the IRS or New Jersey tax authority (They don’t accept 1040 or 1095)
*Property tax bill, jury summons, Social Security Administration documents, or other federal, state, or local government document that contains the patient’s name and address.
*bank statements showing the patient’s name and address from the past three months
    *last three consecutive pay stubs
    *an official deed

For a complete list of documents needed for a New Jersey medical marijuana card, see the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission.

  • New Jersey's Medicinal Marijuana Program only accepts a recent utility or cell phone bill, as well as documents from the IRS or State Tax Office. All other paperwork will not be approved.

  • When it comes to your current physician, you can speak with them about becoming certified to practice with the Medicinal Marijuana Program. Only physicians or health care providers that are registered with the MMP can authorize your approval in the program. To find an official list of of MMP certified physicians, you can visit this page on the New Jersey government website. To navigate to the practitioner list, find the 'Patient' tab, and click the option that says 'Find a Doctor'. You will then be able to locate a certified MMP physician in your area. You can also use the NuggMD website to find your practitioner. Visit NuggMD New Jersey to view all the NuggMD doctors that are fully licensed in New Jersey with the state's MMJ program and provide the service you are looking for.

  • NuggMD offers one of the best rates to get a New Jersey medical cannabis evaluation, and there’s no risk because patients who don’t qualify for the program will get their evaluation for free! After receiving their recommendation, the patient must register with the state for their free digital medical marijuana card. If the patient wants a physical card as well, there is a $10 fee.

  • The state of New Jersey no longer charges a fee to take part in their medical marijuana program. Patients are provided with free digital cards upon completing their application. If the patient wants a physical card, the state charges a nominal $10 fee.

  • Nearly all insurance companies will not cover the cost of medical cannabis because it’s federally illegal. Lawmakers attempted to pass a bill (A 3511/S 309) that would require insurance and worker’s compensation coverage for medical cannabis under many circumstances. The bill failed to progress.

  • Currently, medicinal marijuana is not covered under Medicaid or any insurance/health plans in New Jersey.

  • New Jersey no longer charges a fee for digital medical marijuana cards. If you want a physical card, the state charges a small $10 fee to cover printing and delivery.

  • Qualifying NJ residents must first be diagnosed with one of the debilitating medical conditions that are listed by the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission. All patients must be evaluated by a state-licensed physician and be at least 18 years of age or accompanied by a parent or guardian. Qualifying patients also must have a New Jersey residency.

  • Qualifying conditions for a NJ medical card include:

    Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
    Anxiety
    Cancer
    Chronic pain
    Dysmenorrhea
    Glaucoma
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Chron’s disease
    Intractable skeletal muscular spasticity
    Migraine
    Multiple sclerosis (MS)
    Muscular dystrophy
    Opioid use disorder
Positive Status for HIV or AIDs
    PTSD
    Seizure disorders, including epilepsy
    Terminal Illness Requiring End-Of-Life Care
    Tourette Syndrome

  • The list of debilitating medical conditions is maintained by the Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC). According to the latest revision to the state’s medical cannabis law, the NJ CRC can add to the list of qualifying conditions. If your condition isn’t listed, your best course of action is to petition the NJ CRC to add it to the list.

  • Opioid use disorder has been qualified as a singular, debilitating medical condition for the New Jersey medical marijuana program as of January 2019. The one catch is that the patient is required to show proof that they are receiving medication-assisted therapy (MAT). If you are an opioid use disorder patient, you can qualify for a medical marijuana in New Jersey with proof of debilitating symptoms or as a supplement to your MAT treatment regimen.

  • New Jersey medical cannabis patients gain access to a variety of essential benefits. NJ medical card holders have access to both medical and recreational dispensaries and are given priority at dispensaries with both medical and recreational sales. The medical menus at dispensaries that sell to both medical and recreational users tend to be larger.

The purchase limit for medical patients is also higher in New Jersey. Recreational users can purchase up to 1 ounce of cannabis at a time, while medical users can purchase up to 3 ounces.

NJ has also done away with taxes on medical cannabis, so medical patients will save on tax compared to adult-use consumers (which can really help in a state with some of the highest cannabis prices in the nation).

  • " Outside of a wait to connect with a doctor the whole thing is seamless and efficient. Honestly, waiting 15 minutes to “see” a doctor is typical in an office anyway. Quick and easy process."

  • Yes it is! Do not hesitate to contact customer service if you are experiencing difficulties successfully completing your registration via your mobile device.

You can see any New Jersey state-licensed physician, physician assistant, or advanced practice nurse participating in the state’s medical cannabis program to get your medical marijuana renewal evaluation. Once you’ve been certified, a refund for services will no longer be available. Please send an email to support@nuggmd.com with the subject line “Refund Request” and a brief description of your issue. We want to make sure you’re 100% satisfied with your purchase being that you, the customer, are the most important thing to us!
