How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card in South Carolina

We’ll be the first to offer online cannabis evaluations once South Carolina allows them.

It isn’t possible to get medical marijuana in South Carolina yet. The state allows consumption of low-THC oil via an exemption called “Julian’s Law," but only for certain limited seizure disorders. The patient must have a certification from their doctor that they have a severe seizure disorder that hasn’t responded to other pharmaceutical interventions.

The oil must contain 0.9% THC or less and 15% or more CBD. However, the state provides no way to produce this product and federally legal CBD oil only contains 0.3% THC or less, which may not be helpful for most seizure conditions. While the law protects these patients from prosecution for possession and manufacture of the oil, it’s difficult to find cannabis strains that meet the required THC restrictions.

  • Because South Carolina does not have a medical cannabis program, the state also does not have a list of qualifying medical conditions. When South Carolina does legalize medical cannabis, the list of qualifying conditions will probably be in the control of the state’s department of health or a cannabis control board. In that case, you’ll be able to petition the government agency responsible for the medical cannabis program to add your condition to the list. It also might be worth seeking the help of your representatives in the state legislature to pass a law to expand the list.

  • You'll only be charged if you're approved for your medical marijuana certification. If not, your evaluation is free! If you sign up and pay for your evaluation, but then cancel before your evaluation, there is a small $10 fee for the payment processing. Once you've been certified, a refund for services will no longer be available. Please send an email to support@nuggmd.com with the subject line “Refund Request” and a brief description of your issue. We want to make sure you're 100% satisfied with your purchase being that you, the customer, are the most important thing to us!
