Godfather OG Strain Overview

There is some confusion about the history of the original Godfather OG. While this strain might also be known as “Godfather,” “The Don of All Kush,” or “OG Godfather,” one theory is that this strain was created by crossing Bubba Kush, L.A. Confidential, and Granddaddy Purple. The other, and more likely, is that Godfather OG was created by crossing XXX OG and Alpha OG, either by Big Dog Exotic Genetics or Alpha Media Inc. In 2013, Alpha Media Inc. won Best Indica at the High Times Cannabis Cup in L.A. for this version of Godfather OG.

Consumers report the effects of this strain to be sedating and relaxing. Godfather OG is often a go-to strain for medical cannabis patients looking to relieve symptoms associated with insomnia and pain. Coming in between 22% and 34% THC, this cultivar features a spicy and earthy flavor profile with sweet subtle tones of pine and berries. The most common terpenes Godfather OG produces are myrcene, limonene, caryophyllene, and smaller amounts of pinene and linalool.

Godfather OG Strain Effects & Common Usage

The Don of All Kush packs a hefty punch of THC ranging from 22% to 34%. Combined with myrcene, caryophyllene, and limonene, the Godfather OG strain almost guarantees physical relaxation for its users.

Hungry. Ghrelin levels increase after THC consumption, thus boosting appetite.

Relaxed. Linalool, limonene, and caryophyllene may all promote feelings of relaxation.

Sleepy. High levels of THC and the presence of the sedating terpene myrcene may guarantee a good night’s sleep.

Pain. Along with the pain-relieving potential of THC, the terpenes caryophyllene, pinene, and myrcene have demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties and may help with pain relief.

Stress. The stress-relieving potential of limonene may be attributed to its influence on mood disorders such as anxiety.

Godfather OG Strain Dosage Recommendations

With up to 34% THC, Godfather OG may produce too much intoxication for beginner consumers. Experienced consumers may reap this strain’s therapeutic rewards with just 1 to 3 puffs.

The right dosage can vary greatly from one user to the next. If you have questions about finding the right dosage or product type for your needs, consider consulting with a medical cannabis doctor, or you can request a consultation with NuggMD’s Cannabis Concierge.
